StopStatus: Standard

  • Download and open the validity.ods test document
  • Switch to Sheet Stop if not automatically set

    After typing the data into the cell in the following cases, a closing Enter key is necessary to start the Validation process !

  • Set the cell cursor on B4 and type a number not matching the condition shown at A4. A Dialog warning you about  an not allowed value should be shown. Click on the only available Button (Ok) or just hit the enter key. The value should not be entered into the cell. If either the dialog did not come up or the value is entered after confirming the dialog, file an Issue.
  • As you're now in B5, do the same as above and continue to do so for the whole range B4:B11
  • Now select B4 again and enter a value matching the criteria outlined in A4. Did you get a Dialog ? If yes, file an Issue.
  • Do so for the whole range B4:B11

  • Now set the cell cursor to E4 and type a date not matching the condition shown at D4. A Dialog warning you about  an not allowed value should be shown. Click on the only available Button (Ok) or just hit the enter key. The value should not be entered into the cell. If either the dialog did not come up or the value is entered after confirming the dialog, file an Issue.

Click on the only available Button (Ok) or just hit the enter key. The value should not be entered into the cell. If either the dialog did not come up or the value is entered after confirming the dialog, file an Issue.
  • As you're now in E31, do the same as above and continue to do so for the whole range E30:E33
  • Now select E30 again and type Delta. Did you get a Dialog ? If yes, file an Issue.

  • Switch to Sheet Macro
  • Copy the cell C4 and paste it to C30:C38 and F30:F33

    After typing data into the cell in the following cases, a closing Enter key is necessary to start the Validation process !

  • Set the cell cursor on B4 and type a number not matching the condition shown at A4. A Macro is triggered changing the Character color of the cell to the right of the entered value to green. If the color is not changed, file an Issue.
  • As you're now in B5, do the same as above and continue to do so for the whole range B4:B11

  • Now set the cell cursor to E4 and type a date not matching the condition shown at D4.A Macro is triggered changing the Character color of the cell to the right of the entered value to green. If the color is not changed, file an Issue.
  • As you're now in E5, do the same as above and continue to do so for the whole range E4:E11

  • Hit the Enter key. You should be on B5
  • A yellow Note should show up stating
    "The following will be accepted

  • Hit the Enter key. You should be on B6

Flexible Source Range for Cell Range ValidationStatus: Standard

  • Download and open the test document DynRangeValidationTestCase.ods
  • Place the cell cursor on C2 and click on the listbox opener, check that the strings one, two, three, four are in the box and selectable
  • Place the cell cursor on C3, click the listbox opener and check for the strings one, two, three. Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C4, click the listbox opener and check for the strings one, two. Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C5, click the listbox opener and check for the string one.  Is it selectable ?
  • One of the above tests failed, file an Issue !

  • Place the cell cursor on A2 and enter Alpha into this cell
  • Place the cell cursor on A3 and enter Beta into this cell
  • Place the cell cursor on A4 and enter Gamma into this cell
  • Place the cell cursor on A5 and enter Delta into this cell
  • Place the cell cursor on A6 and enter Epsilon into this cell
  • Place the cell cursor on A7 and enter Lambda into this cell
  • Check that Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta can be found in the listboxes on C2:C5. If not, file an Issue.

  • Select the cell range B2:B5 and press the backspace key
  • Select the cell range B2:B8 and type '=TheList' (without the quotes) and close the input with CTRL+SHIFT+Enter
  • Place the cell cursor on C2 and click on the listbox opener, check that the strings Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Lambda are in the box and selectable
  • Place the cell cursor on C3, click the listbox opener and check for the strings Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Lambda. Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C4, click the listbox opener and check for the strings Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C5, click the listbox opener and check for the string Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta.  Are they selectable ?
  • One of the above tests failed? file an Issue !

  • Place the cell cursor on C6. Data - Validity. Choose Cell Range in the Allow Listbox and type TheList into the Source field. Close the dialog by pressing Ok.
  • Do so for C7, C8 and C9
  • Place the cell cursor on C6, click the listbox opener and check for the string Alpha, Beta and Gamma.  Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C7, click the listbox opener and check for the string Alpha and Beta.  Are they selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C8, click the listbox opener and check for the string Alpha.  Is it selectable ?
  • Place the cell cursor on C9, click the listbox opener and check for the Error code Err:504.  Is it selectable ?
  • if one of the above criterias does not match, file an Issue.

Excel binary ExportStatus: Standard

  • Download and open the test document validity.ods
  • Save it as Excel 97/2000/XP file
  • Close the document and load the previously saved validity.xls file
  • Perform the same test as described in the testcases Stop, Warning, Information, Macro and Input Help.
  • Instead of the Character color change on the Macro sheet a Dialog similar to the on from the Information section should come up as the Macros from OOo/SO and MS Excel are not compatible and therefore these Macros are not saved to Excels file format.

Dialog functionalityStatus: Standard

  • File - New - Spreadsheet
  • Data - Validity

    In all test scenarios described here, check also the accelerator keys like ALT+H for the Help Button and so on.

  • Press the Tab key as long as the 'active cursor' is back in the Allow list box
    Should follow Ok - Cancel - Help - Reset - Tab Criteria - List box
    Press SHIFT+Tab to check the other way round.
    Press CTRL+Tab to check the switching of the Tabpages from Criteria to Input Help to Error Alert to Criteria.  Press CTRL+SHIFT+Tab to check the other way round.
  • If any of the tests does not work as described, file an Issue.

  • Back on the Criteria tab page select the list box under Allow and check the content. It should contain : All Values, Whole Numbers, Decimal, Date, Time, Cell Range, List, Text length
  • Select Whole Numbers. Untag the Check box 'Allow blank cells' and tag it again. Does it work ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select greater than in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Minimum ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select less than or equal in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Maximum ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select greater than or equal to in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Minimum ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select not equal in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Value ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select between in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Minimum and is there another Input line labeled Maximum ? If not file an Issue.

  • Select not between in the Data List Box. Does the label in front of the input field switch to Minimum and is there another Input line labeled Maximum ? If not file an Issue.

  • Do so also for Decimal, Date, Time and Text length


  • Select Cell range in the Allow List Box
    Untag the checkbox for 'Show selection list' and tag it again.
    Tag the checkbox for 'Sort entries ascending' and untag it again.
    Is one of these tests not possible, file an Issue.

  • Select List in the Allow List Box
    Untag the checkbox for 'Show selection list' and tag it again.

  • Switch to the Tab page Input Help and tag the 'Show input help when cell is selected'


  • Switch to the Tab page Error Alert
    Untag the checkbox 'Show error message when invalid values are entered', tag it again.
    Check that the List box for Action contains Stop, Warning, Information and Macro
    Choose Macro from the List Box, is the Browse... Button enabled ? Can you browse for a Macro ? If not, file an Issue.

Cell range and changing referencesStatus: Standard

  • File New Spreadsheet
  • Switch to the Sheet3
  • Enter Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta into C3:C6
  • Switch to Sheet1
  • Select cell D10
  • Data Validity
  • Switch to Tab page Criteria
  • Under Allow: select Cell range
  • Into the Source field enter $Sheet3.$C$3:$C$6 and click on Ok
  • Check that the dropdown listbox on D10 contains the values from Sheet3
  • Select Sheet2 and go to Edit Sheet Delete. Confirm the dialog with yes
  • Go to Sheet1 and select D10
  • Data Validity Tab page Criteria. Does the cell reference show still $Sheet3.$C$3:$C$6 ? If not, file an Issue.
  • now remove the '$' signs in the source field and close the dialog with Ok.
  • Insert Sheet Position 'After current sheet' Click on Ok
  • Switch to Sheet1 and check the Listbox on D10, still valid content from Sheet3 ? Yes ? File an Issue. Data Validity on D10 Tabpage Criteria should show the Name of the inserted sheet and the cell reference. This is the desired behaviour since we used relative addressing in this case.
  • Change the Source range back to $Sheet3.$C$3:$C$6
  • Go to Sheet3, select C3:C6 and move this block to F15
  • Select Sheet1 and check D10's List box for valid content
  • Select Sheet3 and insert a line between F16 and F17 Enter Test into the new F17
  • Select Sheet1 and check the List box on D10 for the new data. Present ? If not file an Issue.
  • Select Sheet3 and delete rows 16 and 17
  • Select Sheet1 and check the List box on D10 for absence of Beta and Test. Beta and Test have been gone ? If not file an Issue.


Preselection of cell content in validity listStatus: Standard

  • Open new spreadsheet document
  • Fill cellrange A1:A5 with ¨A;B;C;D;E¨
  • Click on cell D6 and open menu DATA -Validity
  • Go to tabpage CRITERIA
  • Choose Cell Range
  • Enter A1:A5 as Source
  • Close dialog with OK
  • Check that there is a selection list control on cell D6
  • Choose entry C
  • Reopen selection list and verify that C is selected
  • Choose E
  • Reopen selection list and verify that E is selected
  • Close document
